Hi guys… I’m going to try not to make this another one of my long-winded posts… but I thought I’d just share a few pics of my most recent 3 paintings.
“So, big deal…!” – one might say… “Hat made three big paintings. Isn’t that what creative creatures do anyway? Paint…!?”
But here’s what makes this so interesting (and surprising) – to even ME…
- This is the first time I have painted large, contemporary paintings (I always assumed that this kind of stuff was the domain of “Real Artists” – and that I should stick to small, quirky little illustrations).
- This is first time I have used oil paints (the silver)… and charcoal…
- This is definitely the first time I’ve used a diamond in a painting!
- This is the first time I’ve done a self-portrait… (if you could even call it that)…
All 3 pieces have been painted on wood (another first)… they’re big (over a metre… which is – at least – big for ME – since my usual comfort-zone is A4 or A3 sheets of water colour paper)… and… I have LOVED the process of creating these.
Now… I’m going to move on with new experiments… I’ll keep you in the loop with how it all goes.
In other news – we’re hitting the road again (yay!!!)… and after a solid couple of months hermitting in our Joburg home – we’re going to spend 6 weeks in Durban while Nick works on a new film. It’ll be nice to visit the sea again… enjoy some Durban curry… and just experience something “new” for a change.
Next time I post something from this blog – it will probably be from Durbs. But anyhoo – enough yakking… here’s the pics I promised:
Being an artist starts in your heart, progresses to your brain and no matter what the size of your surface, you’re an artist, because you believe you are. Took me more than 40 years to make this observation and make it a reality. Indeed, you have been an arist all along, the difference is, you now believe it 🙂
Zactly that! 🙂
All three paintings are great and the self portrait is amazing! Wonderful work! So proud of you for stepping out and using your creativity! Keep up the great work!
Thanks Scott. I think I’m proud of me too. Mostly for just REFUSING to listen to that nagging little you’re-not-good-enough voice… and going ahead… and doing it ANYway. Thanks for your kind words of encouragement! 🙂
Wow! I feel like I could get lost in your creations. The more you look the more you see. AMAZING xx
Wish you were here in person, Rach. We’d have SO much to yak about. I could show you my creations… you could show me your creations… we could yak on about how art has provided a conduit for so much self-discovery and growth…. *sigh*… PS: We might be lurking in Europe later this year. If we’re on your lovely island… we shall definitely need to connect for a face-to-face yak!!! x
WOWWWWWWW!!!!! To think that THAT has been inside of you all along……AND ITS JUST JUMPED OUT!!! I’M GOBSMACKED!!
Tip of the iceberg, dear mother. Tip of the iceberg.
WONDERFUL!!!!! Looking forward to seeing more.
Looking forward to creating more too! 🙂
Powerful. Amazing. Glad you are releasing this floodgate!
