Working on new illustrated rhyme book… I want to draw some extra noxious poison bottles… with lables like “frenemy barbs”, “batshit-beliefs” “unwelcome commentary”, “unsolicited toxic advice” and what-not. Any extra ideas & inputs most welcome! What kind of ‘poison’ do you swallow… in order to keep-the-peace?? 🤔🤔😁. #illustratedbooks #procreateart Today’s temporary workspace… in the (very!) ample & extremely comfy home of our very loved cousins, Helen & Vasco. Good Wi-Fi, good coffee, good company… and (lots!!!) of good food (Helen is - after all - Greek! And Greeks have a reputation for… um… over-catering! 😁). I went through a season of endlessly drawing cities (ironic for a forest-dweller, huh?). I shot the reference photo for this drawing on the island of Corfu (Greece) last year. This is ‘Old Town’ on a mid-summer evening. I loved Corfu’s eclectic mish-mash of architectural styles! Actually, there’s loads of stuff I loved about Greece. But (as a forest-mushroom) I couldn’t stand the mid-Summer heat! 🥵 I was like a bat… hiding inside (with the air-con) during the day and only emerging in the early mornings and at sunset!! 😁 Next time we go to Greece, I want to go in Autumn or Winter!!! #greece #corfu #procreate Gonna miss these misty vistas of home. We get lots of rain in Summer, lots of mist (perfect hiking weather in my opinion because I utterly loathe baking in the sun!). I’m a bit of a mushroom. I like shade, mist, forests & streams . Anyhoo… we’re off to California for a month or three. Excited for a new adventure (as always) but will miss the exquisite beauty and peace of ‘our’ Midlands nature reserve & forest. #karkloof #kznmidlands Drew Corfu Old Town while we were in Greece last year. Looking forward to drawing more buildings & cities during our upcoming la-la-land adventure… (I want to draw those iconic boulevards with the tall palms). Now… (sigh)… if only I can find ways to earn… y’know… $$$ from these odd hobbies of mine!!! 😁 #greece #corfu #procreateillustration #travelillustration A page from my next illustrated book (which I don’t yet have a title for). This one (also an illustrated rhyme like “How Heather got her HAT’ness back”) is about the (process) of learning to live life authentically without constantly fretting about whether or not other people will judge and disapprove. The snippet of rhyme on this page will simply say: “Gossipers gloat when you make a mistake”…. 😁🎩. #illustratedbooks #illustration #selfpublishing So…. after a long season of hiding away in the forest (where we now live)…. I was recently challenged by a couple of trusted folk… who (long story short)… helped me to think differently about my ‘default mode’ of hiding myself (and my art & writing) from the wider world. So… baby-step #1 has been to relaunch (ie: finally make an EFFORT to promote) my first book while I create my next book (also an illustrated rhyme). Book #2 is about 65% complete (I will share progress of that too!). Back to a semi-nomadic life for the next few months while Nick works on a new film. I (always) enjoy the opportunity for travel, new scenery and experiences - but have grown so accustomed to the peace of the forest - that it’s an… um… adjustment to live in a golf estate! My sunrise routine (apart from enjoying the water birds) is to watch in awe as a parade of machinery… mowers, cutters, golf cart trucks and other golf-green maintenance machines (that have weird shapes and attachments) make their way across the course (we’re adjacent to the 13th hole) and disappear through a lane of houses (presumably to begin their day at the first hole?). The machine parade is followed by an army of gardeners on foot - carrying a large variety of gardening tools and implements (many of which I can’t identify). 🤔… as I type this, two men are fiddling about with upside down green boxes and raking some sand pits. Clearly I know nothing about golf courses (or the maintenance thereof)… but find the whole spectacle bizarrely fascinating. (Even more bizarrely fascinating is the golfers themselves - but that story is for another day 😈)…. Morning doodles while chatting to old friends… 🙂☕️
