I don’t know about you… but I’m often plagued by all kinds of nagging little thoughts about things I “ought to” be doing… or “should” be doing. So… I wrote down some of the oughts and shoulds – if only to ponder them and question why I feel so beholden to all of these unspoken expectations…
It was quite a fun and enlightening little experience. Here’s some of them:
Random Factoids...
- I ponder, ruminate and overthink all the time. I’m always trying to figure out and better understand the why’s behind human behaviour. I want to understand why I do the things I do and why I think the way I think… and equally, I want to understand everyone else’s whys as well. Of course – this is an impossible and idealistic aspiration. But I aspire nonetheless.
- I like reading the letters, lists and private thoughts of other people (I guess it’s part of my quest to better understand). I absolutely love the “Letters of Note” coffee table books (I have both editions) – and apparently, there’s a “Lists of Note” version – which I’m lusting after too. And I’m fascinated by the “Post Secret” books (although I only have one of them).
- Shakespeare apparently said that expectations are the root of all heartache. I’m inclined to agree.
