I have just returned from a sublime weekend… with loads of spoiling… at the marvellous Bay Hotel in Camps Bay (Cape Town). We were there for the Kynet Silwerskermfees (Silver Screen Festival) – and in particular, because of Nick’s role in the movie, Faan se Trein (Faan’s Train).
My husband is a pretty private kind of guy… so, you don’t see him mentioned in this blog all too often. I’m okay with blurting all out all of my stuff and sharing my quirks and nuances with cyberspace… but, not so with Nick. He’d prefer to keep his opinions, struggles, thoughts and ideas in the company of face-to-face friends.
And that’s okay with me.
And normally – I try to keep Nick’s business… as Nick’s business… UNLESS… well, unless he wins a nice, fancy film festival award – and I, as the wife, can’t help myself from sharing the news!
So – this is a sharing-the-news post! Nick won the award for “Best Editor” of a feature length film… and I couldn’t be prouder. I’m also so proud of the rest of the cast and crew of Faan… because… well… the movie pretty-much scooped most of the festival awards!
Nick has been nominated for a number of SAFTA Golden Horn awards before… but never walked away with the trophy – so I was SO(!!!) super-chuffed and proud when they called out his name at the Silver Screen Awards.
As for me – I had a blissful weekend.
We flew down to Cape Town on Friday – and we arrived at the 5-Star “Bay Hotel”… with all those cool, added extras that make me feel like a giddy little school girl. What is it about choccies on pillows… and fruit baskets… and complimentary bottles of wine… and espresso-pod machines… and stocked mini-bar fridges… that have me gleefully leaping around our hotel room like a joey on Red Bull?
Apart the gorgeous hotel room and all the added little luxuries – it was a lovely time to connect with all of our industry friends. There was much laughing… much quaffing of wine… much connecting and idea-sharing… just a great big dose of The Good Stuff! Thank-you M-Net! Thank-you Kyknet!
Anyway – this is just a quick post to share the news. I’m back in Joburg now. Today was Turf-the-Trash day… and (with relief) – I am proud to say that I purged a small mountain of stuff from our house!
Our collection of stuff is significantly smaller… if not gasp! manageable!
The count-down until November continues….
